Why Wear Welding Helmets?

Why don't individuals within the movies wear welding helmets? Instead of wearing protective gear, these actors wear their costly sunglasses or even worse, occasionally they just squint while they're working! While it might be at least somewhat understandable to ignore your safety whilst you are just tacking, but when you're welding huge pieces of metal, do not even think about only wearing sunglasses! And as with most things we see on the big screen, we ought to keep in mind that these are just actors and they're obtaining paid to play it cool.

People do not understand that it's not just your eyes that can suffer from damage, it is also your face! The heat and sparks that often are produced pose a serious burn risk. Furthermore, when not using welding helmets, your skin is exposed to ultraviolet light. You are right, too many ultraviolet rays can lead to skin cancer - and welders are exposed to a bunch of them. Welding helmets are extremely essential to protect not only your eyes but your face and neck. It is only cool within the movies to skip wearing protection

I still managed to keep the same welding shield I had almost 13 years ago and thankfully I did because am just now getting back into welding. The shield itself has the flip up visor that definitely comes in handy whenever you need to chip slag from the bead and it flies all over the place. Totally agree with your observation of how television and the media seem to glorify not using welding protective gear. Great posting!
